Individuals & Community
finding inspiration and renewal in ourselves, each other and our world, coming together in shared experiences on the spiral path
Physically a labyrinth is an open space, a flowing path, designed to be walked and offering an opportunity to be in the present moment - unplugging our minds from the everyday things that tend to consume us.
It can be walked for -
-
calming and quieting,
-
releasing stress,
-
releasing emotional obstacles,
-
gentle physical exercise,
-
processing grief,
-
letting go,
-
encountering perspectives,
-
practicing mindfulness,
-
and peace of mind.
In this way it is of huge benefit for personal and community health and wellbeing. It offers an alternative to formal, organised personal development activities.
Labyrinths can be used at community events -
-
celebrations eg. anniversaries, festivals
-
performances eg. street theatre, dance, music
-
acknowledgements eg.Reconciliation
-
seasonal changes (eg. solstice, equinox events)
-
global/national events eg. NAIDOC, ANZAC, World Environment Day, World Habitat Day
-
healing eg.Survivors of Suicide Loss, post-Covid re-alignment, post-disasters
By its very nature, a labyrinth draws people in and engages their interest and curiosity – both adults and young people alike. It adds value to designated areas, eg near walking paths, in reserves and parks, and any open spaces where people gather. While outdoor labyrinths tend to be permanent, portable and temporary labyrinths can be used/constructed indoors or outdoors.
Forms and designs of labyrinths (emphases and aesthetics) lend themselves to collaboration with artists, urban planners and landscape designers with the use of local symbols, knowledge and meaning. Labyrinth planning, implementation and maintenance offer opportunities for community group involvement.

We are more than our minds. Threading its way through
the expanses of time,
the labyrinth finds us
ready to access our
body wisdom
in the 21st Century.
